Our new series EdCo LATAM Consulting looks at how our team carry our there day to day responsibilities and what advice team members have to reach student recruitment and engagement objectives in Latin America.
Our first “Day in the Life—-¨series is written by our Mexican Account Manager, Scarlet Ramirez who works as the Latin American Representative for the University of Guelph.
We hope you find the article and video useful.
“As a Latin American representative for the University of Guelph, no two days are ever quite the same-but each one begins with a familiar rhythm. I always start with a good morning routine: some exercise, a proper breakfast, and a moment to sit down and map out the day ahead.
Organization is key when working across multiple countries and stakeholders.
When I’m not traveling, my days are a bit quieter. My main focus is on supporting students—whether that’s helping them complete their applications, answering questions about programs or scholarships, or simply reassuring them through the decision-making process.
Other activities can consist of answering emails, having calls with students, agents, and institutional partners. I also manage administrative tasks like updating our systems and tracking progress on current applications or escalating pending tasks.
But when I’m on the road, everything changes. My days are packed with school visits, events, long commutes across cities, and extra meetings squeezed in wherever possible. It can be hectic-but I genuinely love it. There’s something incredibly rewarding about meeting students and families face-to-face, hearing their stories, and introducing them to all that the University of Guelph has to offer. And of course , the chance to explore new places is always a welcome bonus.
Living in Mexico has given me a unique and deeper understanding of the local education landscape. Mexico is a vast and diverse country, and its students have a wealth of options—not only among national universities but also international institutions from around the globe. It’s a competitive market, and standing out is essential. For a student to consider studying abroad, they’re often looking for that “extra something”—a unique value, a strong connection, or a compelling story that makes a university feel like the right fit.
The Mexican market is dynamic, full of energy, and rich with opportunities. The students are inspiring, the potential is enormous, and I truly believe there’s space for every institution to find its place.
I always wanted to make an impact. I enjoy being part of the process, to support students and partners to achieve their goals, I believe that each day I contribute to that, in a larger or small way, that always brings satisfaction in my day”.
